Gyneacological causes of acute abdomen in pregnancy
Keywords:
gynaecological causes, acute abdomen, pregnancy, ectopic, placental abruptionAbstract
Causes of acute abdomen can either be due to pregnancy itself or can be unrelated to pregnancy. The incidence of the acute abdomen during pregnancy is 1/500–635. Many different surgical, gynaecological and internal diseases may result in acute abdomen. While performing clinical examination and trying to interpret laboratory parameters, we have to consider anatomical and physiological changes that occur during pregnancy. It is a challenge for any doctor to diagnose and treat pregnant women. Ultrasound is the investigation of first choice for most gynaecological and non-gynaecological causes of acute abdomen in pregnancy. When treating a critically ill pregnant woman, potentially harmful effects of ionising radiation on the fetus must be ignored. Surgical treatment consists of two main approaches, laparoscopy and laparotomy.
