The following review article describes poliomyelitis and the management of children after the disease at the Hospital of Stara Gora in the years 1952–1962. The precious experiences of the experts, who treated patients with poliomyelitis and of physicians, who were affected by it, are a credible proof of the seriousness of the disease and of the need to keep a high vaccination rate in our society.
